![]() Since the game consisting mostly of text and bitmaps, modding is extremely simple, and can change the game in a multitude of ways at the touch of a button. In a game that seems to be as ‘laid back’ as a man with a stick up his arse, Democracy 3 benefits greatly from having simple yet effective mod support. It really helps simplify things, and removes any unnecessary complications when you’re trying to figure out how to stop the debt crisis and everyone and their dog seems to want your balls in a vice. The matters at hand are strung together in a web of information, showing how car usage is effecting the asthma epidemic, or why the rate of obesity is skyrocketing. This is a very effective and attractive way of doing things, as it removes any complication, and allows for the values of how much the religious people hate you to be relayed instantly, right before your very eyes. Whether it be increasing how much tax there is on oil, or legalizing LSD, sliders are the way you would go about doing it. In a way that would make the old ladies from the Wonga™ adverts smile, the majority of changes in the world are dealt with sliders. Graphs showing finite details such as Tobacco Tax, Military spending, and the average tea consumption per person occupy the neatly compacted tabs, whilst things that require your immediate attention light up like LED lights on a circuit board at the main screen. Clean, descriptive icons litter the page in a way that clearly relays the heaps of information which otherwise would equal a fortnight reading through paperwork. Starting the game, you are greeted with the lovely interface. A canvas war torn by mistakes of the past, and what a beautiful sight it is. Oh boy, let’s get political, shall we?Īfter polishing up the details that determine the state of the country, along with bumping up the difficulty to Nick Clegg level, my adventure into the world of politics and controversy started! As the newly appointed political leader for your country of choice (Mine being the United Kingdom, unsurprisingly), you are given the task of pulling the country back from the brink and resolving the unfortunate kerfuffles they may have gotten themselves into. As I was appointed the task of turning the British National Party into something that wouldn’t make the average British person convulse on sight, the most valid choice was obviously the English Democrats. ![]() You would then choose who you would like to oppose. You can also, simply type up your own political party, this being the option for people who would rather be called ‘The Shit Party’, or ‘Monster Raving Looney’. Here, it gives you the option to pick from a list of well known political parties such as labour, liberal or (god forbid) conservatives. Will you shine brightest in your respective nation’s time of need, or will you be unable to cope with the stress and responsibility of being a political leader? This is the game that explores that, and at an extremely detailed level.ĭemocracy 3 starts your political pilgrimage at a screen asking what party you would like to be. As the title hints, Democracy is a game about being a democrat, leading a country to it’s full potential, or to its inevitable doom. ![]() By liam_coulter | Review Date: October 26, 2013įrom the minds that brought you Gratuitous Space/Tank Battles comes the third entry in the popular political simulation franchise: Democracy.
